I forced myself to inhale by the time I got out of the elevator, and bent forward, my hands on my knees. It took me about 10 minutes to realize I was safe and that everything’s alright. I slid off the nearest bench, breathing more easily, and sat down long enough for my heart rate to decrease. My wife was sitting beside me, teary-eyed, as she kept asking me if I needed to go to the hospital. “So what was that? Am I having a heart attack? Am I going INSANE?”

Instead of answering my wife, I walked across the street and called for a taxi to bring me straight home. That night, as I sat in my apartment, I thought about what happened and how I can prevent it from ever happening again.
